Preparing for your headshot session doesn't need to be stressful. A little preparation goes a long way towards helping you feel relaxed and confident on the day.
The night before your session, try to get a good night's sleep and stay hydrated. It sounds simple, but feeling well rested often shows in your expression and energy.
Plan your outfits in advance and bring a few options. Layers, jackets and different necklines can create a surprising amount of variety without needing lots of clothing changes. If you're unsure, bring it anyway, we can always decide together what works best.
Think about your current casting rather than the roles you'd like to play in five years' time. Your headshots should represent who you are now and where you're most likely to be cast.
One thing I always tell actors is this: you don't need to know how to pose. I’ll help you with that!
It's my job to guide you through the session. Most people who step into my studio tell me they're nervous about having their photo taken, and that's completely normal. We'll take our time, chat throughout the session and work together to create natural, authentic images.
Finally, don't put too much pressure on yourself. Your headshot session isn't a test. It's simply an opportunity to create photographs that represent you at this stage of your career.
The more relaxed you are, the more your personality will shine through, and that's what casting directors are really looking for.
